We're Kami and Bogi, sisters in law, and the dreamers of ankka adventures.
We share a love for creativity, craftsmanship, and the freedom of self-expression. By day, we work in corporate jobs, but in our hearts, we are makers.
For us, creating isn’t just a hobby - it’s a way to reconnect with ourselves and the world around us. We hope that through ankka, we can inspire others to embrace creativity, celebrate individuality, and carry a little piece of that joy with them every day.
Our dream is to grow ankka into more than just a brand. We hope to build a community of like-minded individuals who appreciate thoughtful design, value sustainability, and find beauty in the small things - just like we do.
HOW DID WE GET THE IDEA?
Somewhere in Budapest, in a fourth-floor apartment without an elevator, the idea of ankka was born for the first time. Tired of the corporate world, longing for something real, something alive, we envisioned creating something just like that. Something that brings life closer to people - the colors, nature, movement, laughter, tears, connection, creativity, and creation itself. We wanted to create something truly real and truly alive.
WHY ANKKA?
What does the word ankka mean? You may have guessed from the logo - it means duck. On some afternoons, we often found ourselves by the water, watching and laughing at the ducks. They lived their little lives so completely immersed in the moment. Whether in the wind, snow, or sunshine, they were always there, existing with their whole being. Chatting, partying, dramatizing, paddling, waddling - they were just being. Many imaginary characters and conversations were born on those afternoons, and what stayed with us was that, for us, ducks became symbols of the vibrancy of life and the art of simply being. What a way to live!
THE BEGINNINGS
We thought a lot about how to make all of this come to life. We decided to start with backpacks because backpacks naturally symbolize a life full of adventures, making them the perfect choice. That’s when we began designing them. Through many small steps, countless trials, tests, retries, and several years, we went from designing and printing our own fabric to hand-carving patterns in linoleum and using a homemade press to print them onto bags. Eventually, we discovered screen printing and fell in love with this technique, which is both hands-on and industrial. Today, we still use this method to make our bags. Each piece is individually sewn and printed, so every bag reflects its own unique personality.
HOW OUR PRODUCTS ARE MADE?
Each ankka bag is a labor of love, thoughtfully designed and carefully handcrafted. We source all our materials from small Hungarian businesses, ensuring that every step of the process supports our local community. From the sturdy cotton canvas to the ink for our patterns, everything we use reflects our commitment to sustainability and quality.
The designs and patterns on our bags are deeply personal, inspired by the challenges and triumphs of life. Each pattern tells a story: overcoming obstacles, stepping boldly into the unknown, regrowing after hardships, and caring for one another. These stories are more than just designs - they represent resilience, connection, and the beauty of transformation.
We bring these patterns to life using a simple, homemade screen-printing technique. The process is intimate and hands-on, giving each bag its unique character. No two pieces are exactly the same - imperfections and variations are part of their charm. Our goal is to create not just bags, but meaningful objects that carry stories, values, and a touch of humanity.
WHAT DOES ANKKA MEAN FOR US?
Ankka means a love for life. It’s about feeling excited, brimming with energy, bursting with ideas. It’s seeing birds singing as they hop along branches. Finding joy when you walk to the store with a loved one, bake bread, or sit by the lake imagining funny conversations between ducks. It’s a perfect frothy latte. A half-frozen stream in the middle of a bare January forest. Being full of life - joy, energy, emotions. Being at peace with yourself. When you no longer need to tell anyone how well you’re living. You just live. It’s about our most important relationships, our thousands of colorful emotions, and the beauty we find in each day.
WHAT IS OUR GOAL?
At Ankka, we work to bring people closer to a more original, more genuine way of life. One where we pause to observe, watch pebbles or ducks, and walk with open eyes and hearts to truly connect with our surroundings. It’s a life where we connect with the people around us, laugh with strangers, or notice when someone needs help. A life that makes room for colors, nature, movement, dance, laughter, tears, and heart-to-heart connections. A life full of friendships where we can be our true selves, and above all, where more people can experience the joy of creating something out of nothing - the joy of creativity and making. We want more people who feel lonely or out of place to become confident, creative individuals who belong to a loving community.
